Employability

The Project's Focus

The European Social Fund (ESF) aims to help people secure work, including those with an identified disadvantage. It also commits funds to develop the skills of those already in work, promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all, and supports initiatives which improve women's labour market participation.

The Equal Initiative is funded by the European Social Fund and specifically funds activity which tests and promotes new means of combating all forms of discrimination and inequalities in the labour market, both for those in work and for those seeking it.

The work of the Portland Partnership aims to explore the dynamic nature of work and the experience of disabled learners in their pursuit of it. This will be realised by the following activities:

Focus groups and interviews with beneficiaries to explore their expectations of work.

An examination of pre-vocational and vocational provision available to project beneficiaries, including coverage of transition.

Focus groups and interviews with employers to explore their experience and expectations of employing people with disabilities, knowledge of assistive technology etc.

Interviews with employees and if possible, employers, with disabilities

These activities will be presented in the form of reports and case studies, which will be posted to this site and published in paper form. Other features, such as a links page, will appear shortly.

Please contact Rob Nicholls, Reseach Co-ordinator, regarding any issues relating to transition and the employment/employability of people with disabilities.
