Outcomes And Achievements

The outputs of the Portland Partnership and its domestic partners can be broken down into several different strands. The headings below are links to specific information about each particular area.

Assistive Technology

The partners worked on producing a new, versatile piece of assistive/adaptive technology (AAT). This was undertaken in order to provide each learner with an appropriate means with which to access novel learning materials and Information Learning Technology.

Virtual Learning Environment

The Portland Partnership Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) has been designed specifically to meet the learners' individual requirements. All interfaces are symbol/graphic supported, with audio if required.

Learning Materials

The materials produced as part of the project enable a learner to develop core and ILT skills simultaneously. Based primarily at a Pre-entry level, the age-appropriate and accessible materials augment existing learning resources and good teaching practice and help develop skills such as an awareness of cause and effect, navigation through software and basic literacy and numeracy.

Transition

Individual learners realising their potential within the workplace is a key objective of the European Social Fund's Equal initiative, and the project team has worked alongside learners and employers to raise awareness of the software, hardware and support available that helps make the employment of a severely disabled person a feasible option. The project team has also helped develop a transition framework for adults with physical disabilities and/or learning difficulties.

Transnational Work

The Portland Partnership was also one of four European projects that formed Disability Forum. This partnership offered additional benefit and support to each of the individual projects by sharing ideas, expertise and experience.
